OpenOffice is very good alternative to microsoft office products. I primarly use spreadsheet and found threat of virus to openoffice spread hseet is less when compared to MS Office Excel. Main issue with MS office programs are viruses using COM modules, activex modules etc.

I suggest for open office Team to provide user frinedly sripting tool like javascript to the spread sheet. Java modules available is good for Programmers and not user friendly for Users

Many Thanks for Open office Team and Work Done well so far and Best of Luck

I use openoffice only in place of microsoft office. As it cand read and write MS office suit files, it is just thhe one needed. Many a times it has rescued us from embarassing situations where MS PPT files won't open for some reason but openoffice will import, convert and just be fine in carrying out the business. Yes, some background details/decorations will be different. But it is the content that is most important. The spreadsheet component is also similalry very usable. I almost do everything in it. I am not syaing anything about the word processing as it is the mainstay for many a people round the globe. the databse component could as well be equally good , though I have not used it. It is also supposed to work as a front end to PostgreSQL, that's really great. The only problems that I face is that it may just hang without any symptoms and then it needs to be closed down. Of course it will recover the file and do just fine. It needs to be seen and the problem rectified. As such, it is a great product.

The most elegant office package, and that too free, not only by cost but also by personalizing features.
